With only one clerk working the window at our local post office, the line was moving as slow as a turtle heading for a vacation in the desert.

As I waited, I began to fill out my check for postage to speed things up when I reached the counter.

Unsure of the date, I turned and asked the woman behind me.

"It's the fifth," she replied.

From the back of the line, a man suggested, "Oh, I don't think I'd write the date in if were you just yet."
