The head of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles says
it has come to his attention that someone has been spreading a
false rumor about the agency's contribution to the relief effort
in Taiwan following the earthquake there.

James Haigwood says
there is no truth to reports that the Red Cross response in
Taiwan was being "withheld pending approval from Beijing," the
capital of China.

Haigwood says a team of relief workers from
the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies arrived in Taipei, Taiwan's capital, immediately
after the quake and went right to work.
