Treesitter May Be Close To Ending Two Years In Tree
STAFFORD, CA - Is it conservation or eco-terrorism?
For the
past two years young Julia Hill has been sitting in a 180
foot tall old growth redwood that is part of a grove slated
for the ax by Pacific Lumber.
She wants the majestic redwoods
preserved while the company wants to turn them into nice,
single-family homes and duplexes.
But her 24 month long vigil
may be at an end as the two opponents near a settlement.
"We
want her to be safe but we are not going to agree to anything
that... allows for the commercialization of treesitting," said
company spokesman Josh Reiss.
Hill has not had a comfortable
two years on her 6-by-8-foot platform.
She uses a bucket for a
bathroom and takes sponge baths.
And for exercise?
She climbs
her tree
. What else?
[Treesitting for profit? I guess if there's one place that
would happen it would be in California.]
